Expert support for Families to thrive, during the fourth trimester.

Bringing a new human into the world is one of the most amazing and sacred times for a family. Smalls newborn support is here to not only become your village, but to also help you build and thrive in it.

As a postpartum doula it is my role to support the birthing family after birth by promoting rest, recovery, and bonding. Postpartum care looks different for every family. At Smalls Newborn support, each family is supported based on their individual needs. This means taking the time, as a postpartum doula, to ask questions, and to actively listen. Clear communication ensures care can be thoughtfully tailored.

This can look like preparing spaces for the baby, rearranging the home to accommodate a new routine, or taking over newborn care so the parent and family can focus on self-care. Whether it’s taking a shower or simply having a quiet moment without worry, those small breaks matter.

Part of self-care is ensuring that family members are getting proper nutrition. As a doula I assist with nutrition by preparing light meals, meal prep, preparing grocery lists, shopping for items, and helping to create a meal plan that best supports recovery.

I provide guidance on feeding methods (breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and combination feeding), recognizing hunger cues, and supporting proper latch and positioning. I also help with swaddling techniques, newborn hygiene, diapering, and umbilical cord care.

In addition, I support families in understanding newborn behavior, sleep patterns, soothing techniques, and how to respond to cues with confidence. I can help build healthy daytime and nighttime routines, walk through safe sleep practices, and create habits that set both baby and family up for success.

I offer guidance on postpartum recovery, emotional changes, and recognizing signs of postpartum mood disorders, while encouraging open communication and support. My goal is to leave families feeling confident, informed, and supported long after my care is complete.

Day time Postpartum Support

Overnight Postpartum Support

Overnight postpartum doula support provides restorative, thoughtful care designed to help new families navigate the vulnerable nighttime hours with confidence and calm.

I arrive in the evening and stay through the night to offer evidence-based infant care, such as safe sleep guidance, soothing and settling techniques, and assistance with nighttime feeding. I observe your baby’s patterns, track feeds and diapers, and provide thoughtful, compassionate education or advice tailored to your family’s goals or any concerns that I may observe or arise.

What overnight support may look like:

  • I help soothe and settle the baby after nighttime wakings, using hands-on techniques and gentle routines.

  • For breastfeeding parents, I offer positioning and latch support during night feeds and practical tips to maintain milk supply. I can educate the family on safe breast milk handling and storage and assist with proper storage. I also have success at helping babies transition between breast and bottle. Ensuring the breast feeding parent can get a break.

  • I handle bottle feedings when you choose, preparing and warming bottles. I ensure babies are fed at their proper pace (pace feeding) and held upright for 30 minutes after each feed to lessen gas, spit-up, or acid re flux.

  • I monitor the baby’s sleep and feeding patterns, taking notes to share a clear summary in the morning. I take note of any potential digestion/ gastro related issues and work together with the family to start to find way to relive them.

  • I can quietly do light baby laundry and bottle sanitation to maintain a calm environment while you rest.

  • Meticulous notes are maintained with precision and clarity. Capturing exactly what went on with your precious baby during my time. I document feedings, sleep patterns, diaper changes, health/safety concerns, etc.

What People Are Saying

“We are happy to recommend our night nurse, Mary, who cared for our newborn during the early postpartum weeks. This was our first child and she began helping the very first night we were home from the hospital. Her availability and steady presence during those initial days gave us much-needed reassurance and made a huge difference for us as new parents.

Mary was wonderful with our baby and handled overnight care with ease and calm. She was reliable, professional, and consistently thorough — she logged all of our baby’s overnight feedings, diapers, and sleep patterns so we had a clear record each morning. Because of her care, we were able to wake up well-rested and confident to face each new day.

We are grateful for Mary’s attentive, experienced support and would recommend her to any family seeking a trusted night nurse.

“We had an amazing experience with Mary as our newborn care specialist! She provided overnight care for our baby boy, which allowed us to get the rest we desperately needed. She was always extremely communicative and reliable, giving us complete peace of mind. I fully trusted her with our baby from the very start. Not only did she take great care of our newborn, but she also went above and beyond by offering thoughtful and helpful advice. Her support has been invaluable to our family, and I can’t recommend her highly enough!”

I had the pleasure of working with Mary Smalls for two months. She was invaluable during the time period as I got used to being a parent to two children under two.

Mary predominately assisted with the care of my infant daughter with feeding her, encouraging tummy time, and changing her. She also made sure I had time to prioritize self care as I recovered from the delivery of my second baby. My daughter initially struggled with feeding and Mary offered a lot of tips and suggestions that assisted with minimizing the amount of projectile vomit she has on a daily basis. She also was suffered slightly from colic and the techniques she used helped to calm my daughter. She also was a great playmate for my 18 month old son. Providing me with a much needed break for a few hours from the demands of parenting two young children. Mary was also flexible with her schedule, willing to modify her schedule to accommodate my children’s medical appointments.I would highly recommend Mary to assist during the post partum period, whether it be with an infant or an older child.
